Sending emails
Preview, test, schedule, and send your emails. XOXO checks your audience, subject, links, and sending setup before anything goes out to your list.
Everything about a send happens in the Send panel: the checks, a test to your own inbox, and the choice between sending now and scheduling for later.
Choose an audience
You can send to everyone on your list, or to a saved group.
- Open a draft email.
- Select the audience and subject button at the top of the email.
- Choose Everyone or a group.
Review the checks
The Send panel runs a set of checks so an email doesn’t go out with a problem in it.
- Select the button in the upper right of the email.
- Read the Checks list. Each row names what it looks at and what it found.
- Fix anything marked, then return to the Send panel.
- Account: sending setup and your subscriber limit.
- Audience: someone to send to.
- Subject and Preview: written, not too long, no all caps or extra punctuation.
- Content: enough real text, not only images.
- Links: every link valid, no shorteners or bare addresses.
- Personalization: every variable has a fallback.
- Readability: text color with good contrast.
A blocking problem, like a missing subject or an empty audience, turns Now and Later off until it’s fixed. A warning, like a long subject, lets you send anyway.
Send an email now
After you send, the status card shows its progress.
- Open the Send panel.
- Select Now.
- Press and hold Send now until the button fills.
Caution
Once sending starts, the email can’t be edited. If you need a new version later, duplicate it from the menu.
Schedule an email
- Open the Send panel.
- Select Later.
- Choose a date and time. Times are in your device’s time zone.
- Press and hold Send later until the button fills.
A scheduled email uses the subscribers who match its audience when the send starts, so people who join in the meantime are included.
Send a test email
A test goes only to people on your team, and it doesn’t count as a send.
- Open the Send panel.
- Select Test.
- Choose which team members should receive it.
- Select Send test.
If the email uses variables, the test shows each variable’s fallback text, or leaves it blank when there isn’t one.
Cancel a send
A scheduled email can be canceled any time before it starts. An email that’s already sending can be stopped for anyone who hasn’t received it yet.
- Open the email.
- Select Cancel on its status card.
- If the email is already sending, choose Cancel now to confirm, or Resume to let it continue.
Canceling a scheduled email returns it to a draft. Canceling one that’s sending marks it canceled, and it can’t be edited or resent. Duplicate it to try again.
Caution
Messages that were already delivered can’t be recalled.
