Importing subscribers

Bring subscribers into XOXO two ways: connect a platform you sell or publish on and new people import automatically, or import a CSV file once.

Every way of bringing subscribers into XOXO is an import, and they all start from Import on the Audience page. The Import subscribers drawer has three parts: Active connections for the platforms you’ve already connected, Automatic imports for the platforms you can connect, and Manual imports for a CSV file.

Caution

Only import people who agreed to hear from you. Imports don’t ask for confirmation. A connection imports people who qualify on that platform. Check what each platform brings before you connect.

Which one to use

Connect a platform when your audience lives on Big Cartel, Gumroad, Patreon, Shopify, Squarespace, or Wix. The first import brings over everyone who already qualifies, and after that people arrive as they opt in.

Import a CSV for a list you keep in a spreadsheet, or a platform XOXO can’t connect.

Automatic imports: Connect Big Cartel, Gumroad, Patreon, Shopify, Squarespace, or Wix once, and the people who opt into email there import on their own.
Manual imports: Import a CSV file once: prepare the file, match its columns to subscriber fields, filter out rows you don't want, and tag everyone in the batch.

Imports and your price

Importing is never blocked, whatever size your audience is. During early access, an import can take you past 100 subscribers without pausing sending or costing anything.

When billing launches, a file import estimates how many subscribers it adds and shows the price before you start. A connection’s size isn’t known until it runs, so the final price depends on how many subscribers it imports.
